Utah Festival Opera Says It Needs $400K

LOGAN, Utah (AP) – The founder and director of the Utah Festival Opera says it needs $400,000 in taxpayer money to survive to keep this season from possibly being its last.

Michael Ballam on Tuesday told the Cache County Council that the organization is in a difficult position and is hoping for help.

Ballam says funding from foundations and corporations has dried up during the economic downturn and the company’s endowment isn’t in a position to be tapped.

Ballam says increasing ticket prices to balance the company’s $3 million budget also isn’t an option.

The company’s season starts July 8.

The county council voted to give Cache County Executive Lynn Lemon the authority to convene a committee to provide a recommendation within the next month on whether to award the money.

Don’t Buy Gas in Beaver Utah

Can you say, “inflated price fixing”.

If you are traveling on I-15 north or south, get your gas in Provo or Cedar City. You will pay less per gallon.

If you are traveling on I-70 from the east, get your gas in Richfield.
